Health Fund PLUS is a partnership between Northland Community Foundation and Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Te Tai Tokerau, created to support healthcare projects that fall outside of government funding. This fund helps provide the optional extras that make a difference for patients, their whānau, and healthcare staff — enhancing hospital spaces, developing our workforce, and funding initiatives that improve the overall patient experience.
See the Health Fund PLUS FundsSince its inception, Health Fund PLUS has helped fund projects that enhance comfort and care for patients. Past contributions have supported initiatives like:
✅ Upgrading hospital spaces to create a more welcoming and healing environment such as games and activities for children while they wait for surgery
✅ A social night for our dedicated healthcare workers to celebrate and relax
✅ Fundraising to open the Jim Carney Cancer Treatment Centre in Whangārei to provide local cancer therapy to Northlanders, reducing the need for long, stressful travel to Auckland
Every donation to Health Fund PLUS, big or small, goes directly toward projects that improve the quality of care and experience for Northlanders.

Yes, essential services are covered, but many valuable “extras” that improve comfort, wellbeing, and patient experience are not. Donations help fund these enhancements so Northlanders receive the best care possible.
Anyone can donate — individuals, families, groups, or businesses. You can give a one-off donation, set up regular giving, create an endowment, or leave a gift in your Will.
Health Fund PLUS is run by Northland Community Foundation in partnership with Te Whatu Ora Te Tai Tokerau. Together they support health projects that sit outside standard government funding.
