The Jim Carney Cancer Treatment Centre was opened in 2014 following a fundraising campaign called “Project Promise”, which galvanised a region to raise $3m in 3years. The state-of-the-art facility allows many Northlanders to have treatment in Whangārei, saving the long trip to Auckland and back. Although the centre is now built, your help is still needed. You might like to give to improve the facilities or to help get the “nice to have” things that make a patient’s visit more comfortable.
Established through the collaborative efforts of the Northland Community Foundation and Health NZ (formerly Northland DHB), the Jim Carney Cancer Treatment Centre Fund continues the legacy of the late Jim Carney, a philanthropist whose family made a significant donation to the centre. Since its opening in 2014, the centre has provided over 45,000 treatments to Northlanders, reducing the need for patients to travel to Auckland. Donations to this fund enhance patient comfort and support services, ensuring the centre remains a state-of-the-art facility for comprehensive cancer care.
The “Pohutukawa Donor Tree” inside the Jim Carney Cancer Treatment Centre leads on from the previously successful fundraising campaign ‘Buy a Brick’ for the building, refurbishment and support of the Centre. While donations of all sizes are welcomed, donations of $1000 or above will be recognised with an engraved leaf on the Pohutukawa Tree. In addition, you can choose your own message (up to 40 characters) so that “your” leaf is unique and personalised.
