New Fund launched to support ReSport Charitable Trust

ReSport Charitable Trust is helping more Northlanders experience the joy of sport, while reducing waste and caring for the environment.

Established in 2023, ReSport Charitable Trust works to remove barriers that may prevent Northlanders from participating in sport and recreation. Donations of new and gently used sports gear from local businesses, clubs and the wider community, are sorted and redistributed to schools, community organisations, and whānau throughout Te Tai Tokerau who may otherwise struggle to access it. The initiative not only supports greater participation in sport but also keeps valuable equipment in use, reducing the environmental impact of sports gear and textile waste.

To help secure the future of this work, ReSport Charitable Trust has established the ReSport Charitable Trust Fund with Northland Community Foundation. The fund will provide a sustainable source of funding for the Trust. Donations are invested by the Foundation, with the interest earned each year being returned to ReSport Charitable Trust as a grant to support their ongoing work across Northland.

This model creates long-term support for ReSport, ensuring that more tamariki, rangatahi and families can access the equipment they need to participate in sport and play.

Sharon Gibson from ReSport said, “Every piece of gear we redistribute represents a child who can now join in, a family who feels supported, and equipment that stays out of landfill. This fund helps ensure that impact continues for generations.”

Gifts to the ReSport Charitable Trust Fund will help grow a permanent pool of funding dedicated to supporting equitable access to sport across the region, helping to create a healthier, more active Northland for generations to come.
