The Northland Rainbow Community Fund is an endowment fund established to provide ongoing support to members of the rainbow community to show joy in celebrating their identity.
The Northland Rainbow Community Fund was established in 2025 by a generous local Northlander, Lyall, who was inspired by a desire to give back meaningfully after an unexpected lotto win. Lyall, who grew up during a time of discrimination, sees this as a way to honour past struggles and support future generations. His generosity ensures enduring support for Rainbow communities across Northland. The Fund was established with an initial donation, and is invested for perpetuity, ensuring long-term support for the Rainbow community. This Fund will help improve tolerance, inclusion, and support within the Rainbow community in Northland, helping the community continue their journey of acceptance and joy in celebrating who they are.
The annual interest earned from the fund will be available as a grant to the community from 2026 onwards. Applications to the fund can be made through the Northland Community Foundation website from May with decisions advertised in September.
