The Puketī Forest Trust is a community-led conservation organization established in 2003 with the mission to restore and protect the rich biodiversity of Puketī Forest in Northland, New Zealand. This ancient kauri forest is home to rare native plant species and numerous threatened wildlife, including the North Island brown kiwi, kōkako, and native bats.
Puketī Forest contains magnificent stands of kauri, podocarp and hardwood trees and a rich ecological diversity including 370 recorded species of plants, some of which are found nowhere else in the world. Puketī Forest Trust has worked to develop a comprehensive trapping network for pest control over 5,500 hectares leading to significant progress in improving the health of the forest. The Puketī Forest Trust carries out pest control and wildlife monitoring to measure the impact of their work on the forest.
Puketī Forest Trust relies solely on grants, bequests and donations in order to carry out the work of protecting and saving Puketī Forest’s incredible biodiversity.
